Each and every one of our puppies gets to have spa time!
At the start of 5 and a half weeks old, we start with bath time, and then again at 6 weeks everyone gets a bath, blow dry and if they are a breed that requires grooming they get their first trim!
7-7.5 weeks they get another bath and blow dry and they see the vet for their check-up!
Again at 8 weeks we once again bathe, blow dry, and then give them their last haircut while they are with us! Then they get to go see their new families!
Both of these breeds require a lot of brushing not just at the groomer. You need to brush them at least once a day! To keep that long coat!
Brush, brush, brush don't worry keep brushing! You can never brush too much!
If you don't brush unfortunately your groomer will have to shave your dog :( and no one wants that!
Sooner the better! But not before they have had their shots! Always take your new puppy for a "puppy bath" this will help getting use to the environment and all of the new sounds!
I have seen some go to the groomer every two weeks! They are on a alternating schedule! Bath, brush and sanitary trim and a full groom every other appointment! But ideally I would go every 4-6 weeks!
I do not recommend washing your pet at home if you do not have all the equipment. Their fur could get matted very easily! If you have the proper equipment and the time to get them full dried and brushed then it would be okay!
This is a well brushed Poodle! They can leave him/her with long hair! (Please realize that this photo was taken off of the internet.)
This is also a well brushed poodle! they can leave him/her long but yet still keep the hair maintained! (Please realize that this photo was taken off of the internet.)
This is also a well brushed poodle! She gets groomed regularly! (Please realize that this photo is from a groomer!)
This is what happens when you don't keep up on brushing. This results in the pup being shaved. (Please realize that this photo is from a groomer.)
This is what it looks like when the groomers start to shave the pup down. (Please realize that this photo was taken off of the internet.)
This is also a photo of not brushing which results in a shave down. (Please realize that this photo was taken off of the internet.)
Doodle's and Poodle's! What will you need to keep them long?
Slicker Brush - A slicker brush will help you get through the majority of the hair on the body, legs, ears and top knot.
Metal Comb - You will then need to move to a metal comb to go over your work, and check that you did not miss and spot!
High Velocity Dryer - Lastly if you plan to bathe your pup at home remember to get them dry! A high velocity dryer will help you achieve that!
So glad you found us!
